Systems and Mechanical Engineer

Passion for technology combined with an understanding of economics

Marco, Systems and Mechanical Engineer

“The friendly, sociable environment makes working at PMS lots of fun. And the company gives me the opportunity to pursue my professional and personal interests.”

What do you need to bring to the table for this job?
Which talents do you need?

As a Mechanical and Systems Engineering Project Manager, you need to have both technical expertise and knowledge of the economic aspects involved in delivering projects. A degree in the subject isn’t required, but it will help. And you also need to be passionate about technology. Two things are at heart of what we do in our department: basic and detailed engineering services for machines and systems, and designing safety technology. That means a lot depends on us, as if we get something wrong, people’s lives could be at risk.

Because we face new challenges practically every day, it’s very important to be willing to learn new skills. But the ability to think outside the box, forge new paths and be receptive to new ideas is also helpful. We do the groundwork for electrical design, so we work closely with other departments, in particular with Engineering and Automation. And teamwork is crucial – we won’t succeed otherwise.

What qualities do you need to do this job?

A love of technology is important. But you also need high-quality training, ideally some form of technical or economics degree.

At PMS, tailored training is discussed and agreed for all new staff. That means you can dive deeper into any particular interests you may have: for example, with my musical background I’m interested in sound engineering as a hobby, and here I can combine that with my professional career and focus on sound and noise engineering. People who work at PMS should be willing to take on new challenges and shouldn’t shy away from trying new things.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

New challenges are always cropping up, so our work is never dull, and it’s just lots of fun to work together in a positive environment.

Does it involve contact with customers, and if so, where and how?

We speak to customers over the phone, at their sites or at our locations. Given the current situation, we frequently arrange virtual online meetings. Our openness means customers enjoy coming to us.

What makes this job different from other jobs at PMS?

It’s a job full of variety, and from the start you’re expected to work independently and take on a large amount of individual responsibility.

PMS offers flexible working hours, and you can work from home. That’s handy, especially if you’re trying to build your own home at the same time as doing your job. :-)

What’s special about working at PMS?

You work in an incredibly motivated team. The combination of working independently with a high level of responsibility and the freedom to decide your own working hours makes the company an attractive employer for me – and it’s in the town where I grew up!
